Wai Knot

Hi everyone,
this week was a special one …we held the first get together of our Tasman watercolour painters. We’ve called ourselves ‘Wai Knot”, Wai being the Maori name for water, and “knot” signifying a joining together.

There’s not been a dedicated watercolour group in Tasman, so we decided it was time to organise something. Though organise is probably the wrong word as we want to keep it very casual! We plan to meet up once a month or so to paint outdoors together, and it’s a nice chance to meet other watercolourists. Painting outside is the very best way to learn to paint- getting down colours and light before they change and just capturing the essence of a place quickly. It was so good to be back outdoors painting, I’ve been away from it far too long.

This week we headed to Grossi Point Reserve near Mapua , where we hunkered down in the strong winds beside the estuary. There were storm clouds racing across the sky, the tide was flowing out fast and the colours were amazing. You don’t need to be an expert watercolour painter to join us , everyone is welcome 🙂 If you’d like to be included on the email list please get in touch with me and I’ll let you know the details.

Other news…
This Saturday at 1pm at the Rotoiti Community Hall our Rural Women’s group is holding a Christmas fundraiser to raise money for the Nelson Hospice. There will be some lovely stalls (including mine!) for Christmas shopping, raffles , auctions and a delicious complimentary afternoon tea. Entry is a gold coin and we’d love you to join us 🙂

I have a few of my 2024 calendars remaining for sale if you’re looking for a postable gift, as well as both framed and unframed prints and gift cards.
I realise that I need to spend some time loading new work on to my gallery page , as I’ve had a flurry of sales so some now have red stickers!

I’m looking forward to having more painting time next year, with a few adventures planned and a bit of stepping back from other commitments Watch this spot!

Try not to get caught up in the madness of the next month or so, and please pop in and say hi if you’re passing,
Jan
